The main objective of the project is the development and design of an integrated fire management system applied to Mediterranean coastal pine forests of Greece.
The specific goals of the project are:
- The assessment of canopy and surface fuel characteristics of Aleppo and Calabrian pine ecosystems through simple mathematical equations
- The fire behavior simulation in forest stands of Aleppo and Calabrian pine and the assessment of their fire behavior parameters
- The potential effect and evaluation of fuel treatments on fire behavior in Aleppo and Calabrian pine forests
- The design of a stand-alone application that allows the end users (forest researchers, Forest Service employees and other forest managers) to evaluate fire risk and fuel hazard in Aleppo and Calabrian pine stands.
